Day 6
We walked out of the hotel and heard sea lions from the bay in front and had our first look at the Pacific Ocean. We wondered around the bay and around pier 39. We then decided to go into union square and since our hotel was near the cable cars we hopped on one. The streets are so steep that it would be hard imagine walking up and down the hills. We got off the cable car in union square where we had brunch and a coffee in the cafe in the centre where we took in the sights. We had a look around then decided to walk through China town. I believe San Francisco has one of the biggest populations of Chinese people outside China. It was absolutely amazing there. The buildings were styled around what I would think of as Chinese buildings, and there were red lanterns outside restaurants. We then continued to walk back to the Fishermans Wharf area and along the Embarcadero. We spent the afternoon exploring pier 39, apparently Americas 3rd most visited tourist attraction. We had dinner and went to the main shopping area. We had a look around the shopping centre and then decided to go to the bus station where we caught a bus to the beach in time for the sunset. We didn't stay too long as it was quite chilly in the evening on the beach!
