Day 3

When we woke up we discovered it had started snowing outside - and it was a blizzard but it was lovely.

We caught the subway to bottom of central park to get breakfast. We found a cafe that served proper New York breakfasts. I got a pancake stack with maple syrup and an orange juice. So unhealthy - but very tasty! We then thought we had to go and experience another of New York’s institutions - Maceys. We didn't spend too much time there as James was a bit fearful that I would spend all of our holiday money there!

We had booked to go up the Empire State Building that morning, so fortunately it had stopped snowing. The entrance hall (or lobby) was beautiful and after the short queue we found ourselves in an elevator on our way up to the 86th floor. The views even on a cloudy day were spectacular. It was strange being at the top of the iconic building looking over other iconic sights such as the Chrysler building, Statue of Liberty and Central Park!
After leaving the Empire State Building we started walking South down Canal Street and stopped at a micro brewery to have little samples of beer.
We walked through Greenwich Village and eventually got a subway to the ferry terminals at the south of Manhattan.
We got a boat trip up the Hudson River - with spectacular views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and all of the Manhattan skyline from the South. James and I had our traditional beer on the boat - it was freezing so it was good to warm us up.

We then walked to Wall Street and on the way we stopped at a street vendor selling pizza. We were both a bit hungry so we got a slice of pizza - and I think it was one of the nicest pizzas I have ever tasted - ever!

We carried on around the area and stopped when I found Tiffany’s. I was allowed in for about 10 mins before James started to get twitchy and had to leave! We found Trinity Church and stopped in there for a look around. There was a choir practicing so they were drawing quite a big crowd in the church, but it was interesting to see it and wander about it. We walked through Battery Park and up to Ground zero where we thought we would see something more than a building site but that was it. There was one board that had some pictures of 9/11 but there wasn't anything else to let on what had happened there.
We had dinner in little Italy that evening - but it was so expensive! I think they know they are going to get lots of tourists so they make the most of them!
